The ninth edition of Festibérico, from March 20 till March 30, offers an overview of recent Spanish and Portuguese cinema. All films date from the last two years and are specially imported for the festival. The opening film, the Portuguese comedy A GAIOLA DOURADA, was the best visited film in Portugal in 2013. The historical drama LINHAS DE WELLINGTON tells about the early 19th century when general Wellington defeated the Napoleon's French troops near Lisbon. FLORBELA is a biopic of one of the greatest Portuguese poets. In the Spanish part of the program we screen among others GRUPO 7, a powerful action thriller that won 2 Goya's in 2013, and TRES BODAS DE MÁS, a daring and stylish comedy. Festibérico 2014 also has two screenings with documentaries. On Sunday-afternoon March 23rd we screen BAJARÍ about flamenco in Barcelona. A COMUNIDADE about the oldest campsite in Portugal and OBRIGAÇÃO about women in a North-Portuguese fishing community can be seen on Monday March 24th. As ever, there is a special screening of Spanish and Portuguese animation shorts.
The festival will be opened on Thursday March 20th by the Spanish and Portuguese ambassadors. On March 21st director Javier Rebollo will be our guest at the screening of EL MUERTO Y SER FELIZ, one of the highlights of Filmfestival Rotterdam 2013. On Saturday March 22nd director Jonás Trueba presents LOS ILUSOS, an intelligent and ironic comedy. On Sunday March 23 director Luis E. Parés will attend the screening of his short MI IDEOLOGÍA: VARIACIONES SOBRE UN CONCEPTO. Director Leonardo António and main-actress Alexandra Rocha are our guests with their thriller O FRÁGIL SOM DO MEU MOTOR on Wednesday March 26th. On Friday March 28th is director Mariano Barroso present at the screening of TODAS LA MUJERES, which won a Goya a month ago for Best Adapted Screenplay. On March 30 in between the animation session in the afternoon and the closing night session the Portuguese music group Yakari will perform in the foyer.
Festibérico 2014 is organized in cooperation with the Spanish and Portuguese embassies, Instituto Cervantes, Portuguese film institute ICA and local Spanish and Portuguese organisations.
All films are spoken in Spanish or Portuguese and subtitled in English, unless otherwise indicated.
