Old hands and young guns

The tenth edition of Festibérico, our biennially Spanish and Portuguese Filmfestival, shows films by old hands and young guns. Oldest hand is Manoel de Oliveira, who died last April at the age of 106. Visita ou memórias e confissões, the film he made in 1982 and could only be shown after his death, is screened together with his very first film (from 1931!). It is our homage to this great Portuguese director. Young gun Paula Ortiz dared to film a play that belongs to the collective memory of Spain. La Novia, after Bodas de Sangre (Blood Wedding) by Federico García Lorca, brings the passions of the play to the screen, as proven by the many awards the film won. More old hands in the program are Javier Fesser with his animationmovie Mortadelo y Filemon contra Jimmy el Cachondo (after the popular Spanish comic) and Miguel Gomes whose trilogy Arabian Nights/As mil e uma Noites is screened around Festibérico. Together with guests as young guns Pablo Hernando (Berserker) and João Pedro Plácido (Volta à Terra) Festibérico offers an overview of current Spanish and Portuguese cinema.

Special activities are the opening of the festival by representatives of the Spanish and Portuguese embassies, the Q+A’s with our guests and a performance by flamencofusion-guitarist Marcos Teira and bassist Rafael Morales on Sunday April 24 between the two Festibéricoscreenings.

All films are Spanish or Portuguese spoken and subtitled in English, unless otherwise indicated. To make this festival possible, the admission to all screenings is € 11,00. Buy tickets online atwww.festiberico.net or www.filmhuis-lumen.nl.
