O Exército Português recrutou mais uma vez milhares de cidadãos nacionais para cumprirem o Serviço Militar Obrigatório. Dá-lhes um Número de Identificação Militar (N.I.M.). Na tropa, ninguém se conhece pelo nome próprio. Ás dez da noite as luzes vão abaixo nas camaratas. “’Tás a ouvir? ‘Tás a ouvir ou não? Eu não te conheço de lado nenhum, mas para mim és como meu irmão.”

NAMES AND NUMBERS

Every year the Portuguese Army recruits thousands of citizens to constitute the National Military Service. They are given a Military Identification Number. At 10 p.m. the lights go off. “Hey! Are you awake? Those guys are fucking you up, you hear me? I mean, I don’t know you man, but to me you’re like a brother.”
